Is it permissible to expose one's sins?

Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen
And leaving off a sin; if it is a sin related to the right of Allah the Exalted, then it is sufficient to repent between you and your Rabb. And it is not befitting, rather we say that it is not permissible to speak to people about what you did; from committing Haram (a forbidden act) or leaving Wajib (an obligatory act), because this is between you and Allah. So if Allah has favored you with concealment, and covered your sins from others; then don’t talk to anyone about what you did, If you have repented to Allah. And the Prophet ﷺ has said: "All of my Ummah will be forgiven except those who (openly) expose their sins.” And from exposing, is for a person to commit a sin – as it came in the Hadith – then the next morning he speaks about it to the people, saying, "I did such and such."
