Question

I am a university student and, all praise to Allah, I have been guided to grow my beard. However, I take a little from it (i.e., cut it a little) from the neck and the top of the cheek. Some people objected to me and said: it is not permissible, keeping in mind that this extra hair bothers me, what is your opinion, your eminence? Please point out to me (the correct ruling), may Allah guide us and you.

Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen
As for what is below the throat, it is not part of the beard, because it does not grow on the two jawbones. As for what is on the cheeks, according to what linguists say implies that it is from the beard. Based on this, we do not think that this brother can take/cut anything from it. Rather, he should keep the hair on the cheeks and the sides as it is. [That’s] because it is from the beard according to what the linguists say.
