What is the Ruling on the One who Said Kufr Mockingly?

Sheikh Ibn Al-Uthaymeen
Indeed the one who mocks becomes a disbeliever if he says a statement of kufr (disbelief), even if he was mocking. This is because of the Saying of Allah the Most-High: And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only talking idly and joking." Say, "Was it Allah, and His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking?" Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. [Surah At-Tawbah: 65-66] So, the one that was mocking meant the words (that he said) and meant its meaning, but as ridicule and mockery. That is why he is a disbeliever, contrary to the one who did not mean to say (kufr), as his words aren’t considered anything. And this is from the Mercy of Allah the Almighty. And Allah is the one who gives success.
