Is there a connection between Al-Istinja and Wudhu (Ablution)?

Sheikh Ibn Al-Uthaymeen
As for Al-Istinja (cleaning with water) or Al-Istijmar (cleaning with stone or the like), it is the removal of impurity and has no connection with wudhu. So, if a person passed urine or stool, did Istinja (i.e., cleaned himself with water) then went to his work, and then the time (of Salah) entered, he would perform wudhu. This means he washes and purifies the four body parts, and there is no need for him to do Istinjaa (again). That's because Al-Istinja is, as I said, the removal of an impurity. Once it is removed, it is not (required to) repeat the washing a second time unless it (impurity) returns again. The correct view is that if a person forgot to do a proper Islamic Istijmar and then performed Wudhu, his Wudhu is valid because, as I said, there is no connection between Al-Istinjaa and Wudhu.
