Sheikh Ibn Al-Uthaymeen
There is a proof in this for wiping over the socks. And it has been reported by Tawatur (multitudes of chains of narration) from the Prophet ﷺ. The people of Sunnah followed/accepted this, to the point that some of the scholars who authored books in Aqeedah mentioned wiping over the socks in the chapter of Aqaaid (beliefs). That’s because the Rafidah opposed this matter and did not affirm wiping over the socks and denied it.
What’s astonishing is that Ali bin Abi Talib - may Allah be pleased with him – is among those who narrated wiping over the socks. Despite this, they deny it and don’t affirm it.
So, wiping over the socks became a sign of Ahl Al-Sunnah and something mutawatir (multitudes of chains of narration) that they have no doubt in regarding it being from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
Imam Ahmad said, “There is no doubt or anything in my heart regarding wiping over the socks, forty ahadith have been narrated regarding it from the Prophet ﷺ and his companions.”
